Manta Ray Night Snorkel Tour Overview
Your adventure begins as you board our boat and cruise along the Kona coastline toward the manta ray viewing site. Enjoy breathtaking views of the coastline while keeping an eye out for Hawaii’s incredible marine life. Dolphins are occasionally spotted along the way, and during whale season (December through March), you may also have the chance to see humpback whales.
Once we arrive, your captain will position the boat for the best possible viewing experience. Our crew will provide a safety briefing and assist you with your snorkeling equipment before you enter the water. Guests will then swim from the boat to our large floating light raft, where they will hold on comfortably for the entire experience.
The floating raft is equipped with lights that shine into the water, attracting plankton, the manta rays’ natural food source. As plankton gathers beneath the lights, reef manta rays may gracefully glide up and swim beneath you, sometimes coming within just inches of the raft. Watch these gentle giants soar, spin, and dance through the water as you experience one of Hawaii’s most unforgettable wildlife encounters.
At Iruka, we do not free dive with manta rays. Instead, guests can relax and enjoy the magic of these gentle giants from the surface while safely holding onto the floating light raft. Our experienced crew will remain nearby throughout the experience to assist you and ensure you feel comfortable while enjoying this incredible ocean adventure. Please keep in mind that if you choose to return to the boat during the snorkel portion of the tour, you will remain on board for the rest of the excursion.
After your time in the water, warm up on the ride back to the harbor with hot cocoa and a light snack while we cruise back to the harbor under the stars.
All snorkeling equipment is provided, and our amazing local crew will be there every step of the way to make sure you have a safe, comfortable, and memorable experience.
If manta rays are not seen during your excursion, we invite you to join us again on another night free of charge. Experience why manta ray snorkeling in Kona is considered one of the world’s top ocean adventures and a must-do Big Island experience.

We aim to give every guest the best opportunity possible to see manta rays in their natural habitat, but please note that because our tour operates in nature with wild animals, marine life sightings are not guaranteed.
During the manta ray snorkel tour, guests may encounter a variety of other marine life native to Hawai‘i’s ocean waters, including reef sharks and oceanic shark species. While sharks are generally not interested in human interaction, these animals are wild marine creatures and sightings cannot be predicted or controlled.
Our crew is trained to follow established safety procedures and continuously monitor ocean conditions to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all guests. In the interest of guest safety, the captain reserves the right to modify or end the tour early, or require guests to remain onboard and view the manta rays from the vessel rather than enter the water, if conditions or wildlife activity are deemed unsafe or pose a potential risk of injury. By participating in this activity, guests acknowledge and accept the inherent risks associated with ocean activities and wildlife encounters.
-
The Marine Mammal Protection Act regulations prohibit feeding, attempting to feed, and harassing marine mammals in the wild. Touching and/or feeding wild marine life in Hawaii is against the law.
-
If we do not see any manta rays, you will receive a rain check for a free spot on a future tour.
-
The tour is 2 hours from start to finish.

Tipping is not necessary but extremely appreciated! If you enjoyed your experience with us, we recommend tipping the crew via Venmo or cash on the boat. As a rule of thumb, a 20% tip is the average gratuity in the U.S.
We also greatly appreciate our customer’s reviews on our Google Business, Yelp, and Trip Advisor. Your experience helps to inform future travelers.
